The winegrowers of Terrasses du Larzac
The winegrowers
The AOP Terrasses du Larzac is composed of nearly a hundred vineyards and wineries, 3 of which are cooperatives. The collective of winegrowers within the appellation is a real melting pot. Here we find historic Languedoc families who have remained rooted in this beautiful and rugged land.
It was in the late 1990s that these determined winegrowers used their intimate knowledge of the terroir to reveal its grandeur, and in doing so attracted others to join them in the Terrasses du Larzac adventure. Today though, roughly a quarter of all winegrowers within the appellation are considered 'neovignerons' (newcomers having undergone professional retraining).
These diverse and varied backgrounds create a real melting pot and nourish a vigourous and dynamic collective. The appellation grows year upon year, and continues to attract young winegrowers. Their origins are extremely diverse. Many come from different French regions, or from countries such as such as Italy, the Netherlands, Argentina and England. They often have very different professional backgrounds too, and each one has a fascinating life story to tell.
Whether local to the terroir or a newcomer, all the winegrowers have made a personal choice to establish themselves in the appellation. Through their wines, each and every one aims to express the force of the rough, but generous, nature found here in Terrasses du Larzac. Everyone is committed to creating great wines and making the Languedoc a land of excellence.
