TEASER- Audio wine routes- Rocks and Landscapes in Terrasses du Larzac appellation

The first episode of our podcast series dedicated to the geology of the Terrasses du Larzac AOP takes us to the palaeontological site of La Lieude de Mérifons. This internationally renowned site offers an insight into several geological eras that provide a good overview of the turbulent geological history that shaped the subsoil (and therefore the soil) of the terroir(s) of the Terrasses du Larzac PDO. It is situated near the famous Lac du Salagou (a ‘Grand Site de France’). The explanations provided by Shona, our geologist partner from the Hérault Department (Geoparc Terres d’Hérault), take you on a journey through the geological and palaeontological ages. An invitation to come and see for yourself these fossilised current ripples, whose age never ceases to amaze us. This is the home of the famous ‘ruffes’ (from the Occitan word ‘ruffus’, meaning ‘red’), which are truly spectacular and offer a change of scenery. These are Permian continental sediments known as pelites or argillites (Permian continental sediments)
